Firm Overview

The Law Office of Jeff Hanes focuses on all aspects of family law, estate planning and estate administration.

We believe in anticipating and avoiding problems before they occur whenever possible.  We advise all people to have a Will, General Power of Attorney and Advance Directive.  In some situations, we may recommend a Pre-Nuptial Agreement (also known as Pre-Marital Agreements) before a marriage.  We believe Domestic Partnership Agreements can often be beneficial to unmarried co-habitants.

High quality legal advice and representation requires education, experience, good judgment and common sense.   My experiences as a single parent, my friendships with many other single parents and their children and several decades acting as a legal advisor to the Baltimore Chapter of Parents Without Partners have provided me with a personal understanding of the emotional and financial turmoil and stress that can result from divorce, custody, division of property and related family law conflicts.

"Because Trust and Experience Matter"

Planning for the eventual transfer of assets through Wills or other devices and making appropriate arrangements for the care of loved ones with diminishing capacities can be emotionally difficult, and requires experience and sensitivity, as well as legal knowledge.  We do our best to minimize the emotional and financial strains on our clients by providing personal service and keeping our clients fully informed.

Family law cases are as unique and different as families themselves.  After first listening and taking the time to understand our client's unique situations and desires, we provide honest assessments of the chances of achieving particular objectives, and we attempt to establish both short and long term strategies jointly with our clients.  While there is no one solution or method for resolving family law disputes or conflicts, we attempt to resolve such differences in an amicable fashion whenever possible.  We believe reduction of conflict usually benefits all family members, particularly children.

We are often successful in resolving matters with Marital Settlement Agreements (sometimes referred to as "Separation Agreements").  We understand that some situations can not be resolved amicably or easily, and we are ready and able to litigate your family law case in court, should that prove necessary.
